Rick and Ty Hamilton are Montanans, born and raised. Together they are the Montana Outlaw competition BBQ team, makers of BBQ rubs, and the guys behind BBQ Hero.

The Hamilton family began competing in the early 2000s. It wasn’t long before they decided to make Montana Outlaw BBQ rubs. It took a lot of trial and error to get the perfect blends. None of their friends ever complained about being taste testers.

The Hamiltons want to share the love of cooking and get people together to eat. Their focus is on BBQ, but anything grilling and smoking is fair game. Their goal is to help inspire others to have success on the BBQ trail, or just in the backyard. 

Giving Back

BBQ Hero is a passion project at Montana Outlaw. Ty and Rick believe in giving back and paying it forward. Because of the great memories BBQ has given them, they want to share it and give more people the chance to enjoy that experience. 

Montana Outlaw’s idea is to find the amazing people in this world who selflessly give back to their communities and award them with a BBQ experience unlike any other.

When a BBQ Hero is selected, they are surprised with a brand new Traeger grill, premium beef from Stone Ranch Montana Wagyu, high-quality pork from Compart Farms, a meat thermometer from ThermoWorks, and more. The Hamiltons also spend quality time with the BBQ Hero, teaching them how to prepare the best meal ever.

The ideal BBQ Hero is someone who tirelessly, selflessly, and passionately gives back to their community. Someone who gives their time, talent, and treasure to improve the lives of others.
