Native Oklahoman, CR Head has been in the BBQ business since the day he was born. He is currently the 3rd generation to help grow the once family-owned business, Head Country.
It all started in WW2 when Navy cook Donovan Fred Head developed a sauce which he would serve to sailors on the ship. Upon returning home, he perfected his recipe and began selling jars of the sauce to his neighbors.
In 1977, the recipe was bought by Donovan’s nephew and CR’s father, Danny Head. CR would help craft the sauces in his kitchen with his mother and sell them around the local shops. It was an instant success, even outside of the neighborhood, the demand for the sauce was growing. CR dedicated his summers home from college to continue to help the family business.
After finishing college, CR decided corporate life and a suit wasn't for him, so he returned to Ponca City, Oklahoma to help Head Country expand. Now, after 75 years of creating the same family recipes that were once crafted in the Head family kitchen, Head Country has come to define the Oklahoma style of BBQ.
