Born and raised in Texas, Joey Smith was taught that BBQ is more than a way to cook. It’s his heritage.
Smith has been cooking since he was a kid, right alongside his mom and dad. In 2006, the competition BBQ team Texas Chrome BBQ was born. Today, the team consists of Joey and Kassie Smith.
Head Pitmaster Joey Smith is part of the BBQ Champs Academy video series as well as Operation BBQ Relief. The Smiths founded the Texas Chrome Hero’s Foundation. Veterans and military service members chosen by the foundation receive an all-expenses paid trip to a competition BBQ event, where they join a team of up to three heroes led by a Pit Coach.
